Golf at Streamsong

For my golfing friends – the relatively new Streamsong courses in Florida live up to their good reputation. We played the Bill Coore/Ben Crenshaw designed Red course (pictured here) and enjoyed the links-style layout carved out of central Florida’s phosphate-mined landscape. Elements of the old rail system have been incorporated into the design, down to the railroad ties used as tee markers.

The resort is a minimalist contemporary design and very nice.  We enjoyed several of the restaurants, and sunset from the top floor bar; staff were exceptionally friendly.  Facilities include bass fishing, sporting clays, pool, tennis, bocce and a spa.  A third golf course is currently under construction.

You can walk before 11 and fore-caddies are available if in a cart (“G” was knowledgeable, entertaining and encouraging).  For those who have to know, there are opportunities for food and beverages during play.

We had a terrific breakfast at P2O5 (do you know what P2 O5 means?)

It’s worth the trip.  You are really out in the middle of nowhere, but to focus the location a bit, you are about 30 minutes south of Lakeland, 3.5 hours from Miami, an hour from Tampa.  Check it out:  http://www.streamsongresort.com

The Vagabond Motel is a mid-century treasure – recently restored.  The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, with a great internationally-inspired menu and a cool Jetsons vibe.

Check it out – you won’t be sorry.

Veterans: Thank You for Your Service

IMG_3720

We were proud and honored to drive Navy Veteran Steve (shown above) in today’s Veteran Day Parade on Miami Beach. We were part of the contingent from the Sunshine Corvette Club.  It was an emotional experience to learn just a bit of Steve’s 31-year military history, including time MIA in Cambodia (imagine begin a POW during the years our government didn’t acknowledge we were even in Cambodia).  Steve was a big hit with the crowd, particularly the kids, as he gave away several hundred American flags. Thank You All for Your Service.

Bienvenidos a Miami.

The historic Cape Florida Lighthouse. I did climb the 109 steps to the top. Located at the tip of Key Biscayne in the beautiful Bill Baggs State Park (currently ranked 7th best beach in America).
